Mosquitoes

The annoyance of mosquitoes buzzing and biting (and the irritating reaction that often follows) is the usual reason for controlling mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are active at all times of the day, especially on warm humid days. The peak biting periods are at dusk and dawn.

In some areas of Australia, being bitten by a mosquito can carry the risk of becoming infected by a serious disease such as Ross River Virus, Murray Valley encephalitis and Dengue fever brought in by travellers.

Mortein has a range of pest control solutions to control mosquitoes both inside and outside of the home. Have a look at our range of products to find a solution which best suits your needs.

Handy tips:

  • Mosquitoes breed in still or stagnant water. Eliminate potential breeding places where water accumulates like tin cans, blocked guttering, and old tires. Empty any old plant pots and containers that can hold water.
  • Make weekly inspections of the water in flower pots and plant containers. If mosquito larvae are seen, change the water.
  • Fill all tree holes with sand or mortar, or drain them.
  • Place tight covers over cisterns, cesspools, septic tanks, rain barrels, and tubs where water is stored.
  • Drain and fill stagnant pools, puddles, ditches, or swampy places around the home.
