Ants are tiny in size, but they can be a huge nuisance in and around the home as they search for food and shelter. Although they are generally considered beneficial, several species contaminate food, damage structures, bite or sting. Usually they nest outdoors but sometimes they build nests in wall cavities, under houses and in roofs. The best way to prevent ants from invading your home is to locate and destroy their nest.

Handy tips:
- Clean your eating utensils and dishes immediately after use.
- Always store food in lidded containers. Do not tempt ants with an open sugar bowl.
- Seal garbage bins.
- Check wood piles and under pot plants to ensure ants are not nesting there.
- All areas indoors and outdoors should be kept free of food particles or juice spills (bench surfaces, shelves and drawers, floors, tables and rubbish storage areas).
