Silverfish

Silverfish are a common household pest, living and breeding in cool damp places. Silverfish eat almost anything including paper, book bindings, wallpaper and clothing.

Silverfish have shiny bodies covered with scales. They are flattened, long and slender, broad at the front and tapering gradually towards the rear. They are wingless, uniform silvery in colour and grow to just over 1 cm in length.

Mortein has a range of solutions to control silverfish inside the home. Have a look at our range of products to find a solution which best suits your needs.

Handy tips:

  • Store clothing in sealed plastic bags during summer months.
  • Make sure clothes, woolens and other susceptible fabrics are dry cleaned or laundered before periods of storage.
  • Use line drawers with plastic sheeting instead of paper.
  • Do not keep old newspapers stacked on the floor; store them in plastic garbage bags until recycling day.
  • Cleaning kills any eggs that may be present and also removes perspiration odours that are attractive to the pests.
